• Weight of bar in kg/meter should be calculated as (d2 ÷ 162) where‘d’ is the diameter of bar in mm.
  • ‘L’ for column main steel in footing should be considered as minimum 30cm/as specified.
  • For bent up bar add 0.42d in straight length of bar where‘d’ is the clear depth of beam/slab.
  • For cantilever, beam anchorage length for main steel should be 69D or length of cantilever whichever is greater.

Weight per meter of different dia of steel bar.

  • 6    = 0.222 kg per meter
  • 8    = 0.395 kg per meter
  • 10 = 0.617 kg per meter
  • 12 = 0.888 kg per meter
  • 16 = 1.58 kg per meter
  • 20 = 2.469 kg per meter

With help of this formula you can find any type of dia bar weight

(d2 ÷ 162)

D = diameter of bar in mm.

Calculate number of stirrups in column or beam

  • Number of Stirrups = (clear span/spacing) + 1
  • Lap length in column should be 45D

D = diameter of bar in mm

  • Lap length in beam/slab should be 69D

D = diameter of bar in mm

Great article. To calculate cost, weight or length of elements: rod, pipe, profiles/sections (L, C, I/H, T) based on the dimensions given by You or by standards (EN, DIN, GOST).
Built-in database of 30+ materials: metals (e.g. steel, aluminum, gold) and others (e.g. rubber, ice, cork).

Very informative part of Civil Engineering. Rebar elements form a major part of Concrete Reinforcement and it is vital to know how to calculate Tonnages involved.

I will, in due course, contribute some formula details for Rebar weight calculation having worked for many years on Mine related Construction Capital Projects where Rebar weight calculation was key in Contract Reconciliation, e.t.c.
