VENTILATION SYSTEM USED IN PEB BUILDINGS
There are different types of non-powered ventilation systems, which we use in our buildings. Each system is based on basic principles of gravity and wind flow, where the hot air moves up and out, and the cooler atmosphere moves in to fill the void created by the hot air’s outward movement. Proper ventilation is necessary for all buildings and essential in metal buildings, which are extremely susceptible to condensation and heat transfer. The optimum ventilation system for a building depends on its size, shape, location, and purpose. A very general rule of thumb for a typical steel building is that one 10’ ridge ventilator will serve 2400 square feet of space.
TYPES OF VENTILATION IN METAL BUILDINGS
- Turbo Vents – Turbo vents have been used the world over because of their low capital costs, easy adaptability, high air displacement capacity per ventilator and overall reliability. They are dome-shaped wind-driven ventilators which provide the desired exit to the hot humid air trapped inside the shed. It rotates by the push of the natural draft of wind and takes out the heat inside the shed. The main advantage of this system is that it can be installed or increased in number even after the construction of the shed is complete.
- 2. Roof Monitors – Roof monitors are the most traditional form of ventilation used in industries. These are integrated into the steel building shed and are fabricated along with it. It can be custom made in various sizes to suit the client’s ventilation requirement. It is the ideal choice for industries where heat and pollution emissions are high.
- 3. Ridge Vents – Ridge vents are a more minor form of roof monitor and are manufactured with galvanized steel sheets. It comes in the standard size of 600 mm throat size and 3000 mm length. It can be installed at a regular interval or continuously at the ridgeline of new or old constructed sheds. These are light in weight and hence do not require any change to the existing structure. Ridge vents are an effective ventilation tool which provides an exit of hot air from the ridgeline of the steel buildings.
- 4. Industrial Louvers – Industrial Louvers are the preferred choice for industries with high heat generation. They are made from the same PPGL sheets using the chosen colours. It facilitates a huge intake of cooler atmospheric air from its surroundings. To facilitate this, they have to be sturdily built, preferably along with the shed. Clients can choose to get them built continuously or in particular sections of the shed as required.
- 5. Fixed Louvers – Fixed Louvers allow a steady flow of cooler atmosphere air to move inside the steel buildings. They are best suited for light industries and warehouses. They are made from the same colour coated material as used in the cladding sheet and are aesthetically very good looking. It is very lightweight and easy to install.
